Moravia

Moravia, eastern part of Czech republic, was once place of number of important Jewish towns and communities. Between them are:

Nikolsburg. Today known as Mikulov. Once chief rabanut of Moravia. There is preserved synagogue from the time of famous rabbi Low – Maharal. Beside the preserved part of Jewish town, there is also cemetery, one of the largest in Czech republic. There is number of famous rabbis burried there. For example Shmelke rebbe of Nikolsburg or rabbi Mordechai Bannet

Boskovice. There is almost completely preserved Jewish town with astonishing hand painted synagogue. Boskovice was once great center of Jewish life with rabbis like Chatam Sofer or Shmuel ha-Levi Kolin, Machatzit ha-Shekel (who is burried at the local cemetery)

Trebič. Two preserved synagogues, one hand painted. Trebis is almost completely preserved Jewish shtetl. You can feel how was the life of Jewish communities in 19th century in Central Europe

Holešov. Breath-taking hand painted synagogue and grave of famous rabbi Sabbetai Cohen – Shach, author of profound commentary on Shulchan Aruch
